What is this Class About?
English 262 surveys various genres of multicultural literature of the United States, addressing issues of voice, agency, and the construction of American identity across racial, ethnic, regional, and gender boundaries in the cultural context of a diverse country. We will be reading writers with Native American, African American, Latino, Asian American, and Jewish American backgrounds.
In this section we will be focusing on the question of belonging and citizenship, both in its formal and legal sense, but also its cultural sense as well.
